Ben Folds - Best Imitation of Myself (Ben Folds Live version)
During my freshman year at UMass, at the peak of my Ben Folds fandom, he came to play a show at Smith College. I waited in the cold all afternoon to be guaranteed a prime viewing spot for the show. He played the longest set I’ve ever heard or seen him play. Towards the end, his set was entirely comprised of requests being shouted from the crowd. He had played tons of rarities like “Kalamazoo” (which hadn’t been officially released yet), “Underground” (hardly ever performed by Ben solo without a band — the audience took Robert & Darren’s parts at this show), and nearly all of his hits, with the exception of “Best Imitation.” When we shouted for it he rolled his eyes and reluctantly began the song. Everybody cheered, the entire audience sang every word, and the concert ended.
